DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

The Loquat Tree is my attempt to tell a simple story within a complicated world. Through a father and his daughter and the people that they interact with daily, the film touches on work, displacement, longing, and the small moments that shape our lives. It’s not a loud story...It's a reflection of what my family, my friends and my community have been facing throughout the years... Intertwined stories built from quiet observations and human connections.

If this speaks to you, I hope you’ll help us bring it to life.

PRODUCTION NOTES

The Loquat Tree is filmed in a naturalistic, unobtrusive style that prioritizes realism and emotional honesty. The camera observes rather than directs, allowing scenes to unfold organically through improvised moments and lived-in performances. Shot across working-class neighborhoods of Los Angeles, the film blends fiction and everyday reality, using real locations, limited crew, and minimal lighting to preserve authenticity. The result is an intimate, documentary-inflected narrative that stays close to the rhythms of ordinary life.

WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF THIS PROJECT?

We recently offered an early glimpse of The Loquat Tree to a circle of art enthusiasts and culturally engaged voices within our community. Here’s how they responded.

I think it’s a very valuable project from a human perspective. What is lost in today’s political discourse is the human element and from what I saw, I think this film has the potential to masterfully touch on that.

Ed - Economist

"In thematic terms I see a very powerful storyline. It has a very strong humane element even though this very same element is quickly disappearing from our lives. If the community could reach within the same level of mentality, then I think this project will be considered a success."

Silva - Educator

"It’s a unique film because it seems to be giving a perspective on what potentially some of our neighbors are going through. It really seems to aim to capture what goes into their hearts and minds, portraying what battles they’re facing and really putting the audience in their shoes. I can’t wait for it to come out."

Armen - Surgeon

"I found this to be an interesting project, and Armen seems to be the right guy to bring this film to life. I think both in terms of marketing strategy and storyline, now is the right time within historic context and LA is the right place geographically to host this story."

Richard - Scientist

"I've known Armen from a very young age, but every time he makes something it feels that I never really knew him, because each project brings about something new about him, that’s how I feel about this project, and I think his success means the success of our community."
